Meet Jessie Shepherd.

owner + lead designer of Amaranth + Artifact

When a love for antiquing and a passion for interior design collide, a beautiful mess is made. That is the heart and soul of Amaranth + Artifact. Jessie Shepherd created A+A out of her home, moved it to a small storage unit after a year, and quickly grew into a 1200-square-foot warehouse. She credits her art and design degree for facilitating a unique approach to pairing old finds in new exciting ways. Design and decorating have been a passion of hers ever since she can remember.

On any given day, you may find her hunting for treasures, designing a lounge, drawing up plans, scotch-guarding sofa’s, all while sipping coffee and answering emails in the same hand. She holds pride in her work, and sees every last detail to completion, every time.

I went on a solo self discovery trip to Cuba in 2018 and it was amazing.

I enjoy gardening and growing all types of flowers &, vegetables.

I grew up on a small farm where I milked goats and sold watermelon from my front porch.

I have a dual degree in Interior Design and Interior Merchandising with a minor in Art.

I serve on the board of our local Outer Banks Wedding Association.

I’m a flea market junkie!

Live music & festivals are my go to for letting loose.

When I was ten I wanted to be a veterinarian or a ballet dancer. Now I create magical events!

A few words about our name: Amaranth + Artifact

Growing flowers and vegetable gardens was always a part of my childhood. I have my favorite flower varieties, Amaranth being the most unique. The word ‘Amaranth’ named an everlasting flower, of deep fuchsia red color. It is said to represent eternal love & beauty and leave a lasting impression on the minds of many. The definition described how I strive to live and do business; creating everlasting beauty with unfading love that leaves a lasting impression.

Antiques, artifacts and handcrafted treasures adorn my home and remind me of the artisanal practice of crafting something purposeful . I appreciate the furnishings and decor that were made with intention. They come to me with their own history while also creating a memory or a story within my own life.

The name {Amaranth + Artifact} has its own story and meaning; an eternal love and appreciation for the passion of craft and the stories that come with them.
